Ah, those sites that tell you that you, too, can be a Scottish Laird or Lady! There are many of them, and they all offer some variant of this. These have been around for a long time, prior to the internet as it is now, they’re just more popular because the companies sponsor an awful lot of YouTube channels (including at least one anti-scam YouTuber).

These sites promise you that if you pay a certain amount, you will get a square of land in Scotland, and therefore you can call yourself a laird or lady. Only if you read their site closely, they will note that this doesn’t actually account for land in a legal sense; essentially they’re a certificate that you can hang up on the wall. You cannot purchase citizenship in the U.K., much less a title, for the prices you are charged. If you try to use the certificate from this place for anything legal, you will be laughed out of the building.

How to protect yourself
This is a very mild scam in the scheme of things, but an excellent example of “why you should carefully do your research on a Sponsored product”.

As a gag gift - that is, both sender and recipient - or at least the recipient - realize that you are not actually getting land but a ‘souvenir plot’ of no real actual value and a nice-looking certificate, it can be a very fun thing to have.

The good news is that these companies don’t generally charge you subscription fees or similar, but you will still be out money if you take their claims seriously.
