This one is aimed at businesses rather than your average person. In it, someone posts a negative review of a business to a review site. The review might or might not have anything to do with the business - for example, it may be very generic, or may reference services that the company does not offer.

You are contacted shortly after by a company stating that they can remove all negative reviews by working with the review site in question. You give them money and they may or may not remove the negative review, and in any case, vanish with your money.

Note that there are review websites that do demand payment to remove negative reviews. They’re not the scam outlined here, but the practice is certainly scummy.

How to protect yourself
Do not pay anybody who purports to be able to remove a negative review.

Check to see what the site in question requires in order to have a negative review removed. If you are not able to get it removed, you might want to see if you have a response/rebuttal option.
