So this week’s scam is one I’m very familiar with.
It’s something that shows up repeatedly in emails reported to my office. Sometimes people recognize it from the first email, some people realize it after the second or third exchange.
I’ve heard stories of people who have fallen prey. They’re mostly new people who don’t know their management too well, so it’s easier to fool them into thinking that this really is their management.
Funnily enough, they don’t show up on the sources I use to decide on what scam I’m covering this round, but someone on the scams subreddit mentioned falling prey (though they delivered the gift cards to their manager and apologized), and I realized I hadn’t covered this fairly common scam. Mea culpa.
