Scams have endless permutations, which means my pages get updated or new pages made, depending on the variation in the scam.
Recently, I updated the page for the Fake Reporting scam (my most popular page) to include a new (or “new”) variant of that scam that shows up on BlueSky. I was unaware of it because I don’t generally do social media, but I was getting some hits from that site according to my analytics, and wanted to see if I could find who had referenced it. I did not find who had linked me, but I did find out about this version of the scam.
So thank you, whoever linked my obscure site page on BlueSky!
In the case of this week’s scam, even though it is a version of the Unpurchased Purchases refund scam, it was novel enough that it needed its own page. Most people are going to think it’s weird to get an invite from a payment, and the reason behind it - and the fact it doesn’t mention what the supposed purchase is - made it sufficiently different from its parent scam to warrant a different page.
This is in contrast to the Fake Reporting scam, where apart from the slight differences - “whoops, there’s a page pretending to be you and I accidentally reported you instead” it was the same scam.
