I didn't mean for two Apple-related scams in a row, honest

Back to back Apple-related scams, both because these two systems are set up for ease of use, not security.

I always recommend Apple products because Apple’s walled app garden makes it harder for people to download bad software. Which is why I was surprised and yet not to find that the same ease of use also opens the doors for scammers. Scammers will try just about anything to split people and their money, because they’re lazy asses who don’t believe in an honest day’s work.

I also had to check to see if I’d covered this one before in some other form, because I know I’ve run across it more than once. The problem with cataloging scams is that while finding new variants is fascinating - says the person who monitors scams - I have to check if it’s one that I’ve covered before in some other form.

For example, this week is a type of fake payment scam, which in itself comes in many forms. Fake checks and scams where you are overpaid and requested to send money onto a “third party” are both variants of the fake payment scam, but scammers tailor their scam to the industry or type of people they are attempting to scam.
