There are a ton of scams that are Facebook-based, but this one caught my interest when I was browsing around Reddit recently.
Usually I cover scams that hit regular users of sites, but I’m also interested in scams that hit businesses and this was yet another example of one of those. It’s always the same thing - the time pressure, the “oh no, I did something wrong!” kneejerk response, the fact that they’re counting on you to not check to see if it’s legit or going where it’s supposed to go.
Scams are ever-evolving. I found a Snapchat version of the “I reported your account” multi-platform (originally Steam) scam not too long ago, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it shows up in other places as well.
With the current events in the world as they are, I expect an uptick in scams, phishing, and malware. The only advice I can do is scrutinize, scrutinize, scrutinize. A lot of people want to scare you for their profit, and only common sense will save you.
