Teaching an old dog new tricks

This week’s scam is an oldie but goodie. Nowadays, you’re apt to see less of it just because of Covid and the rise of online payments.

Several articles came to my attention mid last week about the newer version of the scam, which involves QR codes pointing to fake payment websites. I’m holding off on discussing the whole world of QR code scams and phishing (QRishing, for those curious - I thought for sure it would be called quishing or qishing to go with phishing via voice - vishing - but apparently it’s closer to phishing via voice message, which is smishing). So I decided to go with the older one which, I admit, I’m more familiar with.

I don’t think I’ve ever fallen to this myself because I’m fairly paranoid about such things, but I know it’s hit others of my family.

Now, this isn’t the only scam specifically involving parking lots; I can think of such scams as fake tickets and fake accidents, not to mention scams that happen to take place mostly in parking lots, like scammy pleas for money. But this one was the first that came to mind, so here we are!
